Both were eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The antidepressant, prescribed by a neurologist, had unearthed my “predisposition for bipolar,” the psychiatrists would later claim. At age 32, I was introduced to a concept called “a felt sense of safety.” Both got on medication. He was the pioneer in my family.
