The reasoning is that, from a neurodiversity perspective, ‘schizophrenia’ does not refer either to the symptoms of an illness, or to reactions to toxic circumstances and life events. To say that in the opposite way, redemption can refer to failure or falling short of all kinds of values.
Governmentality refers to the ways authority structures regulate the attitudes and behaviors of people. Take multiple personalitydisorder , for example. It surfaced in the 1950s, reached a cultural peak where people were walking into therapy offices claiming to have multiple personalities, and was popularized in films.
I have not counted the number of comments about narcissistic personalitydisorder, but it has grown significantly since the 2020 Presidential election and several commentaries that Trump had that disorder. Antisocial personalitydisorder and psychopathy (a trait rather than a formal disorder) have also been used to describe him.
No diagnostic criteria or reference to diagnostic manuals is made. The definitions are there as lay standards so that potentially any interested person can act on them. During the previous Trump election there was a lot of controversy about whether he had a psychiatric diagnosis primarily a personalitydisorder.
